Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland, who could become Mikel Arteta’s first signing.
It comes in response to news that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unhappy at the club, and wants to leave, having turned down the offer of a new contract at the Emirates.
And with the Gabonese striker having only 18 months left on his current deal, the Arsenal hierarchy are prepared to sell him now, rather than repeat the mistakes they made with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck, and allow him to leave for free after running down his contract.
27 year old Volland, who has scored five goals so far this season, has been watched by Arsenal scouts recently, and is prized for his versatility – he is left-footed and can play on either flank, as well as lead the line. Like Aubameyang, he is in the last 18 months of his contract, so the Gunners would be able to get him for a reasonable fee.
