Brazilian midfielder Gerson could become Jose Mourinho’s first signing as Tottenham manager.
The 22 year old was in the Flamengo side that went down 1 – 0 to Liverpool in the final of the Club World Cup Championship in Qatar on Saturday, substituted in extra-time, as his team went down to a goal from Roberto Firmino.
But now he could be set for compensation in the form of a high profile move to the Premier League, although Spurs may allow him to remain in South America for the rest of the season, so that he ca play in the early stages of the Brazilian league and the Copa Libertadores.
Gerson has had a spell in Europe before, moving to Roma from Fluminense. However, despite spending three years in the Italian capital, he failed to really settle, and returned to Brazil last summer, where he became one of the stars of the team that enjoyed Brazilian League success.
