Liverpool have completed their first signing of the January window, after Red Bull Salzburg’s Takimi Minamino successfully completed a medical on Wednesday.
The 24 year old Japanese international was at Anfield to complete the formalities of a move that is expected to be formally announced before January 1st, with a fee of £7.25 million already agreed between the clubs, discussions between the two teams having started last month.
Minamino could make his debut for his new club in the FA Cup third round tie against Merseyside neighbours Everton at the start of next month.
A versatile player, Minamino can play anywhere across the front three positions, and can also drop back in to the number ten role. He is not expected to supplant the regular starters of Mo Salah, Sadio Mané or Roberto Firmino, but provides cover as the club attempts to win its first league title since 1990.
