The latest name to be linked with the managerial position at Manchester United is England boss Gareth Southgate.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now been in charge at Old Trafford for a year, after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho, firstly on an interim basis, and then latterly as the full-time appointee, but the speculation about his future at the club continues, with United making their worst start to a season for more than 30 years.
Wednesday’s defeat of Tottenham, now ironically managed by Mourinho, has bought him some time, but a heavy defeat to neighbours City in the Manchester derby this weekend could see the pressure on the Norwegian ratcheted up again.
Now Southgate could be set to replace him next summer, after Euro 2020, although the favourite to take the job is Mauricio Pochettino who has already indicated that he intends to return to manage in Europe when the right opportunity presents itself.
