Manchester United are yet again being linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The captain of the Portuguese side was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, with Tottenham also interested in a move for the 25 year old. In the end, neither move, nor a proposed transfer to Real Madrid materialised, and Fernandes stayed with Sporting, for whom he has already scored 9 goals in 17 appearances this season.
However, Sporting may now be willing to lower the asking price for him because they are facing debts of £57 million, and need to raise funds to clear them, although the reported £65 million they want for their prize asset may still be too high for his reported suitors.
Both United and Spurs view Fernandes as a replacement for players who have either left or are about to leave their respective clubs – Ander Herrera in the case of United, and Christian Eriksen as regards Spurs.
