Mourinho does not need to spend big in January.

The 56 year old Portuguese arrives at White Hart Lane with the reputation of being a chequebook manager, who builds his teams by buying expensive imports, rather than working with the resources that he has already at his disposal.

New Tottenham boss Lose Mourinho has told the club’s hierarchy that he does not have to spend a lot of money in the January transfer window.

However, that is not how Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, and the club’s owner Joe Lewis, like to operate, instead setting the objective of reaching the top four with the minimum of spend.

And, during the negotiations which resulted in Mourinho being offered the job, he made it clear that he was happy with the squad that he was inheriting, and would not be looking to spend major money to enhance it.

Mourinho met his new squad for the first time on Wednesday at the club’s training

round in Enfield, with many of them still shocked following the sudden sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching team on Tuesday night, the news having been kept under wraps until then.
