Torreira’s agent downplays Arsenal departure reports

The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has downplayed suggestions that the Uruguayan international is unhappy in North London and wants to return to Italy.

During the international break reports surfaced that the 23 year old was unhappy at the Emirates, and the role he was being asked to play under Unai Emery, with suggestions that he wanted to go back to Serie A, where he was playing before joining the Gunners from Sampdoria last summer.

Signed as a defensive midfielder, he became a favourite with the club’s supporters because of his energy and combative style, but, this season, he has been asked to play further forward, leading the press, a position that he does not feel suits his game.

However, whilst admitting that his client does not feel at ease in his new role, his agent Pablo Bentacur has sought to dismiss any idea that Torreira is looking for a transfer away from the club saying “We have no problem with Arsenal, only words of thanks.

‘They allowed Lucas to compete in the Premier League, he has always shown great confidence. Clearly, there is interest for Torreira, especially from Spanish clubs. ‘However, I have never sat down with any club to talk about a transfer. This is because of the great respect we have for the Gunners and their general manager Raul Sanllhei.’
