Granit Xhaka will be offered back to his old club Borussia Mönchoengladbach in January, in return for being given first refusal on fellow Swiss star Denis Zakaria next summer.
Xhaka has not played for Arsenal since his falling out with the club’s supporters after being substituted against Crystal Palace last month, and although he later explained his actions on his personal Instagram account, it fell short of the public apology many were demqnding.
In the wake of that incident he was stripped of the club captaincy, and now he looks likely to leave the club in January, with Newcastle United heavily touted as a potential destination, probably on loan.
However, a move back to the club where he made his name is likely to appeal to the Swiss captain, particularly as Borussia are currently riding high on top of the Bundesliga.
Their form this season has been due in part to the performances of 22-year old Zakaria, with the midfielder attracting interest from a number of leading European clubs already.
