Tottenham are ready to bid £50 million to sign former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay.
The Dutch international joined the Old Trafford side in 2015 from PSV Eindhoven, the same year as he was named the “Best Young Player in the World” by France Football, but had a largely forgettable spell in North-West England, where he became better known for his social life off the pitch than his performances on it.
He subsequently joined Ligue 1 side Lyon in January 2017, and has gone on to rebuild his career and reputation, scoring 50 goals in 130 appearances for them. He has also become an integral part of Ronald Koeman’s Dutch side which reached the finals of the Nations Cup earlier this year.
His form has attracted scouts from leading clubs across Europe, and Tottenham, who are looking to boost their forward options, have now emerged as one of the favourites to sign him.
