Tottenham are set to tell Inter Milan that defender Jan Vertonghen is not for sale in January.
The Belgian international is free to talk to clubs from abroad in the New Year as he is in the last six months of his current contract, and the Serie A club are keen for him to sign a pre-contract agreement with a view to him joining them next summer.
Spurs have not given up hope of keeping the 32 year old, and are ready to offer him a new contract to stay at White Hart Lane. To that end they are not prepared to sell him in January, but Vertonghen, who moved to Tottenham in 2012, may choose to wait until the end of the season anyway. That way he can leave North London for free, sign a new lucrative contract with Inter, and pocket a healthy signing-on fee into the bargain.
