Granit Xhaka’s ongoing outburst at fans on Sunday is likely to lead to a number of consequences for the Swiss international.
Xhaka’s reaction to being substituted on Sunday has led to calls for him to be stripped of his captaincy by fans and former players alike, saying that his position as skipper is now completely untenable, with his behaviour not what is expected at Arsenal.. The midfielder trudged off the field to ironic cheers, and then was seen to verbally abuse them as he left the field, before ripping off his shirt and marching down the tunnel.
Club officials have now offered the player counselling but, three days after the incident, has still not apologised to fans, despite being urged to do so by his manager Unai Emery.
Meanwhile the odds on Xhaka leaving the club altogether in January have been slashed, despite the fact that he signed a new long-term deal with the club only last year.
