Newcastle United want to take Chelsea right-back Reece James on loan for the second half of the season.
19-year old James has forced his way into Frank Lampard’s squad at Stamford Bridge after missing the start of the Premier League campaign with injury, but his chances are likely to be limited because of the form ahead of him of club captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Now Newcastle manager Steve Bruce wants to check on his availability for a January loan move.
James spent last season on loan with EFL Championship side Wigan Athletic, where he impressed so much that he was named their Player of the Year, and wore the captain’s armband in the last matches of their campaign.
Chelsea tuned down a £10 million bid from Brighton for the England under-20 international in the summer, who is predicted to have a very bright future at Stamford Bridge.
Bruce is struggling to fill the right-back spot at Newcastle, with a number of players having played in that position already this season, including Javier Manquillo, Emil Krafth and DeAndre Yedlin.
