Roma want to make Smalling move permanent

Roma are seeking a meeting with Manchester United as they seek to convert Chris Smalling’s loan move into a permanent arrangement.

Smalling lost his place at United during the summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the centre of his defence,  allowing him to move to the Serie A side on loan for the rest of the season at the end of the transfer window.

And the former England defender has already done enough to impress the hierarchy at Roma that he should join the club full-time, as they look to strengthen their defence as they look to get back into the Champions League again.

The 29-year old has helped his side keep two clean sheets already this season, although he was on the end of a very harsh decision in the Europa League on Thursday, when a 94th minute penalty was awarded against him in the match with Borussia Mőnchoengladbach for handball after the ball was smashed in his face.
