Tottenham are preparing to make a move for Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena in the January transfer window.
Spurs are making plans for life after Christian Eriksen. With the Danish playmaker out of contract next June, he could be sold in January rather than being allowed to leave White Hart Lane on a free contract at the end of the season.
And now 21-year old Alena has been identified as a possible replacement, having grown frustrated with his lack of playing time at the Nou Camp, where he has featured just once this season under Ernesto Valverde, the opening day loss away to Athletic Bilbao.
Alena, who is also attracting attention from Real Betis is a graduate of the famous Barcelona academy system “La Masia”, having joined the club aged just 7. He has made 21 appearances for the first team since making his debut in 2017 against Granada, and has been capped by Spain at all age groups through to under-21 level.

He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
