Ozil has hit back at claims by his manager Unai Emery that he is not trying hard enough in training.
31 year Ozil has been left out of the Arsenal squad, including the one that travelled to Sheffield United for their dismal defeat on Monday night, amidst claims by his manager that there are other players at the club who deserve it more. And those sentiments were echoed by the club’s head of football Raul Sanllehi who claimed that Ozil needed to step up the intensity of his work in training.
However, the former German international feels that he is being singled out and made a scapegoat for some of the past failings of the club, and that he is training as hard as he ever has in his career. He said “I’m not training all the time just for the sake of it, I’m ready to play.
“This should not be about me or the coach, only the club. I have to give everything, be fit and focused, and I’m training hard to be ready.”
In the same interview Ozil made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the club until his contract expires in 2021, scotching rumours linking him with a January loan move away from the Emirates.
