Manchester United are prepared to bid £70 million to sign defensive midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham in January.
The Old Trafford side were linked with a move for the 21-year old England international in the summer, but decided not to bid for him at the time.
However, with the club having suffered their worst start to a league season for 30 years, United are prepared to spend big in January as they look to provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with much needed reinforcements.
It has already been reported that verbal agreement has been reached to bring in striker Mario Mandžukić from Juventus, and now Rice could be set to join him at Old Trafford.
Persuading West Ham to part with one of their biggest assets may be a considerable challenge though, and the player himself is committed to seeing out the five year contract he signed with the Hammers last year saying “for me this is the best place to be right now.
‘I am playing for a manager who has given me my chance and played me week in week out.
‘I’m improving every week and although I see all this speculation, I don’t really think about it too much.”
Rice can operate both in midfield and centre-back, so his versatility makes him a very attractive proposition for United.
