Mauricio Pochettino has refused to downplay suggestions linking him with the Real Madrid job.
The 47 year old Argentine has established a reputation for himself as one of the best managers in Europe, helping guide Tottenham to the Champions League final in June.
He has been linked with the Real job before, noticeably when both Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari were both sacked last season, although in the end the Spanish club’s president Fiorentina Pérez decided to re-appoint former boss Zinedine Zidane.
However, with Zidane under pressure at Real after a poor start to the season, including a heavy Champions League defeat at PSG last week, Pochettino’s name is yet again in the frame, with persistent rumours that he is not happy at Spurs, and is frustrated by the club’s dealings in the transfer market.
Now he has done little to dampen the flames with his comments at the FIFA Best Awards on Monday night, saying “Maybe some year” when asked if he would be interested in managing the Spanish club.
