The Swedish international moved to Old Trafford from Benfica in 2017 for £31 million, but initially struggled to establish himself in Jose Mourinho’s side. However, he overcame that tough start and has now become a first choice starter for Mourinho’s successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United are hoping that Lindelof and summer signing can go on to form a long-term defensive partnership to rival that of previous centre-back combinations for the club like Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
The 25 year old has now put pen to paper on a contract which will keep him at United until 2024. It is also reported that the new deal sees his weekly salary doubled to £150,000 as well.
After the announcement was made Solskjaer said “I’m extremely happy that he has committed his future to Manchester United.
“We’re all looking forward to working together to deliver the success and get United back to where we know the club belongs.”
The news comes just days after another Manchester United player, David de Gea, committed his future to the club by signing a new contract as well.
