The breakdown of negotiations between PSG and Barcelona over the potential sale of Brazilian star Neymar back to the Catalan club has boosted Spurs’ hopes of keeping Christian Eriksen beyond the close of the transfer window.
The French and Spanish champions have been locked in discussions for weeks about the potential return of the 27 year old Brazilian, but now that move is off, at least for the time being, after PSG refused to lower their valuation of the player, despite the player himself offering to pay £17.7 million of any transfer fee himself.
That in turn, will give a boost to Tottenham. Eriksen, who had been lined-up as a potential replacement for Neymar in Paris, is no longer needed by the French club, and now looks as if he will be staying at White Hart Lane for the time being.
There is still a chance that Juventus will make a last minute move for the Dane, as they look for a replacement for the out of favour Paolo Dybala, but with the European transfer window set to shut on Monday, time is running out for them to show their hand.
