Virgil van Dijk has been offered a new contract with Liverpool that will see the centre-back double his current wages of £125,000 a week.
Since moving to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018, van Dijk has cemented his reputation as one of the best players in the world in his position, and is the current favourite to win this year’s Ballon D’Or, a rare achievement for a defender. He has also been nominated or the 2019 Best FIFA Men’s Player award, the winner of which will be announced in Milan next month.
The Dutchman was named both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, and the Premier League Player of the Season for 2018/2019, and was an integral part of the team that won the Champions League in Madrid in June.
If he does sign, van Dijk will join the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson, Andrew Robertson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom have recently signed new deals committing themselves to the club.
