Liverpool are considering signing former Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm.
The 35 year old Dutchman is available on a free transfer after leaving Spurs at the end of last season, and now the Anfield club are considering drafting him in to help solve their goalkeeping crisis.
First-choice Alisson injured a calf muscle during the first game of the season against Norwich City. His replacement Adrian, himself only signed on a free transfer a few days before, made himself an instant hero by saving the penalty that won Liverpool the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul.
However, he then made a major error at Southampton presenting Danny Ings with a gilt-edged chance which the former Liverpool striker converted.
With third-choice keeper Caoimhim Keller injured, Liverpool have had to draft in Andy Lonergan, released by Middlesbrough in the summer as cover. But there may still be room for an experienced head like Vorm with goalkeeping coach John Achterburg admitting that he had “been discussed”.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
