One of Manchester United’s transfer targets has signed a new long-term deal with his current club, PSV.
United had been amongst a clutch of top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Sevilla, who had been monitoring the progress of Dutch international winger Steven Bergwijn over the past year. However, the 21 year old has moved to put to an end to transfer speculation by signing a new five-year deal with PSV saying “This is the right decision. I had other options but, in the end, everything has to fit well for me, but also for PSV”.
Bergwijn began his youth career in the Ajax set-up but, following a falling-out with one of the coaches there, he made the switch to PSV, making his debut as a 16 year old. He made his full international debut for the Netherlands last October in the Nations League victory over Germany.
He has not ruled out though a future move to United who he describes as a ”nice club” stressing that he still has time on his side.
