Former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge finds himself in the middle of a tug of war between two clubs desperate to sign the free agent.
Sturridge has been without a club since being released from his services at Anfield at the end of June, and is keen to secure his future, with football league seasons getting underway across Europe.
Turkish side Trabzonspor were thought to be favourites to sign him, and representatives of the player were in Turkey over the weekend to discuss a potential deal and a move to the Super Lig for the 29-year old former England forward.
However, Ligue 1 side Monaco could be ready to trump them with a late bid if they lose Columbian striker Radamel Falcao, who has had brief spells at Manchester United and Chelsea in the past, to another Turkish side Galatasary.
Sturridge is free to play again after serving a short FA ban for illegal betting activities.
