Shaqiri unhappy with Liverpool role

Xherdan Shaqiri is growing increasingly unhappy about his lack of game time at Liverpool.

The 27-year old moved to Anfield from Stoke City last summer, and, although he featured in 24 Premier League appearances last season, few of those were starts, as he struggled to establish himself in Jurgen Klopp’s side. He scored six goals and provided three assists for the Reds last campaign, but he is unhappy about his back-up role. Now he has hinted that he may need to move away to find regular first team football, telling a Swiss publication “It’s clear that I want more time. I have to look at the situation and find a solution.”

The Swiss star yet again had to be content with a place on the bench on Saturday as he was an unused substitute during Liverpool’s 2 – 1 away win against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.

There have also been reports of a falling-out with Klopp, so there may be other reasons for his current omission from the first team.
