Matteo Darmian is set to leave Manchester United – but he may have to wait until next summer before doing so.
The Italian has been linked with a return to his homeland all summer, but now come reports that he has already agreed a deal to move to Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan when his contract runs out at Old Trafford at the end of this season.
The former Torino player joined United in the summer of 2015 for a fee in the region of £13 million, but has never been a first-team regular at Old Trafford, making just 60 Premier League appearances in all for the club. He has fallen further down the pecking order since the summer arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, with Diogo Dalot also ahead of him in the right-back queue under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Now it looks like he is set for a diet of reserve team football for the rest of this campaign as he allows his contract to run down, with United reconciled to keeping him on their books for the next ten months.
