Frank Lampard wants to sign Leicester City and England full-back 22-year old when Chelsea’s transfer ban is lifted again.
The Chelsea boss has been tracking Chilwell’s progress for some time, and regards the 22-year old left-back as somebody that he wants in his team. Manchester City considered making a bid for Chilwell in the summer but, in the end, decided to stick with their existing options in the shape of Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Nothing will happen in the short-term though. Unless EUFA have a dramatic change of heart, Chelsea will not be allowed to sign any new players until next summer.
On the pitch, Lampard’s reign as Chelsea manager did not get off to the best of starts on Sunday, as his side was thumped 4 – 0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford, although the score line somewhat flattered the home side and belied the promise showed by some of the young players for the visiting side.
