De Gea yet to sign new contract

Fresh doubts about the future of David de Gea at Manchester United have emerged as the Spanish keeper has not yet signed a new contract with the club.

Reports last month suggested that this long-running saga had finally come to an end with the 28-year old agreeing a bumper new six year deal with the club. There were even some suggestions that he was seeking the United captaincy.

However, all that talk now appears to have been premature, because de Gea has not signed a new contract, and United are uncertain as to whether he intends to do so.

De Gea is out of contract with United next summer, which means that he can begin talks with any foreign clubs interested in signing him in January. That ratchets up the pressure on United to get a deal signed before then, whilst handing the initiative in any negotiations to the keeper and his representatives.

If he were to leave for free next year, he could expect to receive a highly lucrative signing-on fee from his new club.
