Brighton are interested in a season-long loan deal for Chelsea misfit Danny Drinkwater.
The former Premier League winner from his days at Leicester City has endured a miserable time since his £35 million move to Chelsea, making just five Premier League starts in two years. He only played one game under Maurizio Sarri, the Community Shield last August.
He was also plagued by off the field issues as well after being caught drink-driving.
When new manager Frank Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss he promised to give all the club’s fringe players a chance but, having watched Drinkwater in pre-season, he is now prepared to let him go.
Whilst Chelsea would prefer to sell him, as well as out-of-favour Tiemoué Bakayoko, a loan move for Drinkwater may be an acceptable compromise for Drinkwater, given the lack of interest shown in the 29-year old so far by other clubs.
Brighton, under new manager Graham Potter, are looking to strengthen their midfield, and see Drinkwater as one of the men to fulfil that role.
