Tottenham have enquired about the availability of Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes, and could be about to hijack Manchester United’s proposed deal for the player.
According to Portuguese news reports Spurs sent two club officials to Lisbon to discuss a possible deal, although they have yet to meet Sporting’s formal £64 million valuation for the player.
Manchester United have been heavily linked all summer with a move for the player who scored 31 goals from midfield in 50 games for Sporting last season, but are currently focusing on trying to buy Harry Maguire, and the potential swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Paolo Dybala.
Now Spurs could be set to pip them to the post. Their preferred transfer option remains Argentine Giovani Lo Celso who plays for Real Betis but, in the event they cannot prise him away from La Liga side, Fernandes is a viable alternative.
