The need for Manchester United to sign another centre half during the current transfer window has been underlined by the injury sustained by Eric Bailly on their pre-season tour.
The Ivory Coast international had to be stretchered off the field during United’s friendly win against Tottenham in Shanghai on Thursday, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer later saying “he’s done his knee, but we don’t know how serious it is”.
Woodward has chosen not to travel with the team on their pre-season tour, instead remaining in Manchester in order to work on potential transfer deals, with £80 million valued Maguire currently top of United’s wish list.
Leicester do not want to sell Maguire and are certainly not prepared to sell him on the cheap, but the player himself favours a move to United, and the opportunity to regularly compete for honours.
If they do end up selling him then they are in line to make a substantial profit on a player that they bought for just £17 million from Hull City two years ago.
