Former Barcelona, Juventus and PSG right-back Dani Alves is being linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Arsenal and Manchester City said to be interested the 36-year old.
The Brazilian captain is a free agent after leaving PSG at the end of last season, but is expected to reveal the identity of his new club in the next two weeks, amidst unconfirmed rumours that he has already agreed to join Arsenal on a free transfer. At this stage there is no confirmation of such speculation, but he has previously played under Unai Emery when they were both at the French champions together.
Certainly the fact that he I available without paying a transfer fee is attractive to Arsenal who are constrained by a limited transfer budget, having missed out on Champions League qualification at the end of last season.
Despite his advanced age, Alves is not shy when it comes to promoting what he has to offer his new employers, saying that whoever he plays for will “sign a true champion”.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
