Christian Eriksen may have to settle for remaining at Tottenham next season, as the available alternatives appear to be dwindling.
The 27-year old Danish playmaker sparked speculation about his future after the Champions League Final defeat to Liverpool by admitting that he was open to “try something new” , but he has since been frustrated in his attempts to realise those hopes.
His problem is that there are few teams able to afford him and all are preoccupied with other positions in the squad that they have prioritised this summer. Real have already paid out for Eden Hazard, and are still chasing Paul Pogba, whilst Juventus has brought in Aaron Ramsey and are thought to be on the verge of signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax.
Meanwhile Barcelona have just signed Antoine Griezmann and are embroiled with moves to bring Neymar back to the club, whilst Bayern Munich’s main priority is replacing their wing duo of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.
And with Spurs holding out for a large fee for the Dane, even though he is entering the final year of his contract, Eriksen may need to sit tight at White Hart Lane for another season until he can leave for a free next summer.
