Former Liverpool full-back Alberto Moreno has returned to his homeland and sealed a transfer to La Liga side Villareal.
The 27-year old left-back is a free agent having been released at the end of last season by Liverpool after a five year spell at Anfield, and has been linked with a host of clubs. Barcelona, Sevilla, Marseille, and Aston Villa are just some of the clubs that have enquired about his availability.
However, he has decided to opt instead to join Villareal, and after passing a medical at the club the news was confirmed on social media.
The Spanish international moved to Merseyside from Sevilla in a £12 million deal in 2014, but fell out of favour with Jurgen Klopp in his last two seasons at Anfield, following the arrival of Andy Robertson from Hull City.
Liverpool were prepared to offer him a new deal but, unhappy at his lack of playing time, Moreno opted to move on instead.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
