Chelsea open contract talks with Mason Mount

Chelsea have opened contract talks with Mason Mount, who played under new manager Frank Lampard at Derby County last season.

The 20-year old youth academy graduate has never played a senior game for Chelsea. However, he has had two loan spells, first with Eredivisie side Vitesse, and then with Derby, impressing in both.

There were concerns that, like many of Chelsea’s young talented stars he could be looking to move away from the club in search of first-team football, but the arrival of Lampard at the club has caused several of them to change their minds. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set to sign a new five year deal with the club, whilst Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to follow likewise, turning his back on a high profile move to Germany and Bayern Munich.

Mount currently has two years left on his current deal, but Chelsea are keen to secure his future for the longer-term, and are ready to offer him a new deal until 2024.
