Liverpool are set to go head-to-head with Bayern Munich to sign Sepp van der Berg, who is being hailed as potentially one of the next big stars of the future to emerge from the Netherlands.
The 17 –year old central defender currently plays for Eredivsie side PEC Zwolle, and has broken his way into the Dutch under-19 side, having won three international caps already with them.
He is one for the future, and does not have the maturity to break into the Liverpool first team immediately, but the Anfield side are not likely to have a clear field when it comes to signing him.
Bayern Munich are said to be monitoring him closely, whilst Dutch champions Ajax, who have such a rich tradition of nurturing young talent, are also reporting to be checking his progress. Meanwhile, Sampdoria had a £2.5 million bid for him turned down in the last transfer window.
