Both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing left-back Junior Firpo who currently plays for Real Betis in La Liga.
The 22-year old was born in the Dominican Republic, but has lived most of his life in Spain, and, qualifying for both countries, he has represented both at international level, although he has yet to win a senior cap.
He joined Betis as an 18 year old, and, after progressing through their B team, made his senior debut in February 2017 in an away defeat to Deportivo La Coruňa. He has since gone on to make 35 appearances for Betis, scoring 5 times in the process, and has a €50 million (£45 million) release clause in his contract.
Liverpool want Firpo to provide competition to Scotland captain Andy Robertson at left-back, whilst United are in the market for defensive reinforcements, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul his squad.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
