Manchester United are considering appointing Steve Walsh, the man credited with playing a key role in Leicester City’s Premier League success, as their next Director of Football.
Walsh was credited with bringing the likes of N’Golo Kanté, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy to the east Midlands club., before he left to take over as Everton’s Director of Football. That appointment saw his CV tarnished somewhat because the players that were brought in under his watch were widely perceived not to have offered value for money, but criticism of is recruitment policy is tempered by the fact that not all the players bought were down to him.
Despite that, he is widely respected in the game, and he has his supporters at United, including no less a figure that sir Alex Ferguson.
Meanwhile, United are keen to find a role for former player Darren Fletcher, perhaps with the remit to act as a liaison between the playing staff and the board.
