Liverpool are interested in signing Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy this summer as they look for a replacement for Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian is expected to be granted his wish to leave the club this summer after falling down the pecking order at Anfield, first to Loris Karius, and then permanently since the arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma. Mignolet made only two senior appearances for the club last season, and he wants to move on to find regular first-team football elsewhere.
McCarthy is also looking for a new challenge, after losing his own first team place at Southampton to Angus Gun with the arrival at the club of Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, despite the fact that he was named Saints player of the season for 2017 – 2018. Liverpool are amongst a number of players tracking his situation, who moved to the South Coast from Crystal Palace in 2016.
Meanwhile, a number of clubs are have already made bids for Mignolet, it is reported.
