Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to sign a new deal at Liverpool.
His current deal, worth £120,000 runs out in 2022, but he is now set to sign a contract extension for a further year. It is a major show of faith in the 25-year old by Jurgen Klopp who missed almost an entire year after being sidelined by the serious knee injury he picked up against Roma in the home leg of the Champions League semi-final last year. It also demonstrates his value to the team in the dressing room, with Klopp recently saying “It’s brilliant and so good (to see him back). Seeing his smile after he missed his chance was heart-breaking”.
A £35 million capture from Arsenal in August 2017, Oxlade Chamberlain made 42 appearances for Liverpool in his debut season before that injury. He returned to action in April, almost a year to the day after that Roma performance, as a late substitute in the win against Huddersfield Town.
