Manchester United may have to hand David de Gea a £20 million golden handshake in order to persuade him to leave the club this summer.
The Spaniard has been locked in a bitter negotiating battle over a new contract with United bosses who have refused to accede to what they regard as his exorbitant wage demands.
Now it looks like PSG are willing to bid anywhere between £60 million and £75 million, and United are prepared to pay de Gea off in order to make him accept the move. The goalkeeper knows that he is in a strong position. Out of contract at the end of next season, he can just let his contract run down and leave United for free, knowing that whoever signed him would give him a hefty signing-on bonus because there would be no transfer fee involved.
PSG are in the market for a new keeper after it was announced that veteran Gianluigi Buffon is leaving the club after just one season.
