While Manchester United have enquired about the availability of Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, they believe he is more likely to favour a move to their neighbours and bitter rivals Manchester City.
The domestic treble winners are in the market for two centre-halves this summer, after Vincent Kompany announced his decision to quit the club and join Belgian side Anderlecht in the position of player-manager. And Argentine Nicolas Otamendi has been linked with a move to La Liga’s Atlético Madrid.
26-year old Maguire joined Leicester in June 2017 from Hull City in a deal worth £17 million, but he would be worth much more than that now, having become a full England international (although his defending in his country’s 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands in Porto on Thursday night would have made a park player blush!).
United meanwhile are set to miss out on another of their summer targets. Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, who scored the first of the three Dutch goals on the night, looks destined to go to either PSG or Barcelona instead.
