Newly promoted Aston Villa are considering a move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.
That is according to The Sun who report that Villa need defensive replacements because last season’s centre-back pairing of Tyrone Mears and Axel Tuanzebe are due to go back to their parent clubs of Bournemouth and Manchester United, and there are no guarantees that they can be secured on permanent deals.
33-year old Cahill is due to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this summer having been completely frozen out of the picture under Maurizio Sarri – he did not start a single league game under the Italian. That is despite helping the club to the Champions League and two Premier League titles during his eight year spell at the Bridge.
If Villa do move for Cahill, it will mean a reunion with Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry – the pair formed a defensive partnership for both Chelsea and England.
