Mauricio Sarri’s agent has flown to London as showdown talks over the Italian’s future at Chelsea are set to begin.
He guided the team to European success after winning the Europa League Cup final against Arsenal on Wednesday night, having already guaranteed them Champions League football with a third place in the Premier League. Add a Carabao Cup Final appearance into the mix, and his first season in English football must be judged a success.
Despite this he has struggled to win over the fans and the players, and seemed destined for the Stamford Bridge exit door earlier in the season.
Sarri is happy to stay in England and to build on what he has achieved at Chelsea since his arrival at the club, but needs assurances that the Board are happy for him to carry on in charge.
Meanwhile, he continues to be linked with the vacant Juventus job.

He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
