Tottenham have made a bid of £53 million (€60 million) for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso who currently plays his club football in La Liga for Real Betis.
That is according to The BBC who reports that the bid from Spurs is likely to be not the only one for the 23 year old who initially joined Betis on loan from PSG, but who subsequently signed him for €22 million when they triggered an option to buy him in April.
An Argentine international, he has been named in their squad for the Copa Amrica which gets underway in Brazil on June 14th.
Lo Celso scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 45 appearances for Betis last season, and has a release clause in his contract of €100 million (£88 million).
The amount bid exceeds Spurs’ current transfer record sum paid of £42 million paid to Ajax for Davinson Sanchez in August 2017.
