Spanish full-back Marcus Alonso may leave Chelsea in the summer
The 28-year old signed a new five year contract last October, but he has hinted that he may be ready to depart the club amidst rumours of reported interest from Real Madrid, the club where he began his career – although he only made one senior appearance before moving to England in 2010 with Bolton Wanderers.
Alonso had a difficult season at Stamford Bridge last season, struggling for form, and losing his first team place to Emerson towards the end of the campaign. As a result, he faces an anxious wait to see if he will be in the starting line-up when Chelsea face Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku next week.
When asked about the Real links, Alonso said “There is always talk like this. Is it a compliment? Yes. It means I’m doing well if other teams are trying to get in touch”.
The full-back was part of the team that won the Premier League and FA Cup under the stewardship of Antonio Conté, but has found things harder under his successor, Maurizio Sarri.
