Liverpool are considering a move for Dutch teenager, Xavier Mbuyamba, who has been labelled the next Virgil van Dijk.
The 17 year old is currently playing for MV Maastricht in the second tier of Dutch football, and his progress this season has been such that he has begun to attract attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Bayern Munich, Porto, and Celtic all said to be tracking the defender.
He is currently on trial with Chelsea but, because of their impending transfer ban, Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of the situation, and lure him to Anfield instead.
Maastricht have failed to tie down Mbuyamba, who has made 11 appearances this season, to a long-term contract, so he could be available to move this summer, but whether he chooses a big club, or a move to a smaller club in Holland with more immediate prospects of first-team football is yet to be determined.
