Newcastle identify potential Benitez replacement

One advantage that Gattuso has over previous Italians that have moved to England to manage in the Premiership is that he already speaks English. He spent a season in the late 1990s playing for Rangers, and his wife is Scottish.

Newcastle United have identified a potential replacement for manager Rafael Benitez if he decides to leave at the end of the season.

The 59 year old, having steered the side to Premier League survival for another season, has yet to commit his future to the club, amidst continuing concerns about the funds that will be made available to him to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window, and the long-term plans of owner Mike Ashley for the side.

Now, according to Italian publication Gazetta, a replacement may have been identified in the form of current AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso. The 41 year old is likely to leave Milan at the end of the season, with the ambitious board unhappy at the club’s progress under him, despite the fact that he is under contract until 2021.
