Liverpool ready to trigger forward’s release clause

Liverpool are prepared to activate the release clause for Bayer Leverkusen striker Julian Brandt in the summer.

That is according to German publication Sport Bild who report that the forward’s release clause is set at £21.5 million, which is low in comparison to the potential fee that the striker, who has been tracked by some of Europe’s top clubs, could command.

Real Madrid and Juventus are also monitoring the 22-year old, who has played for Germany at every level, from undere-15s to full international level, but Liverpool may have the edge over their rivals because of Jurgen Klopp and his German connections.

Brandt made his debut for Leverkusen as a 17 year old, and has since gone on to make 210 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals. He has 24 international caps for Germany, for whom he has scored twice, and was part of their World Cup squad in Russia last summer.
