Aberdeen captain in Derby talks

Derby County are in talks with Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie about joining them in the summer.

Suspended for his club’s Scottish Cup semi-final at the weekend, 27-year old Shinnie who is out of contract at the end of the season, has travelled south, reports The BBC to discuss the proposed move, with Derby manager Frank Lampard having watched him in recent action in Aberdeen’s home match with Motherwell.

Shinnie, who has 5 international caps for Scotland, made his name with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, with whom he won the Scottish Cup in 2015. He signed for Aberdeen shortly afterwards, and has since gone on the make 184 appearances for The Dons, scoring 12 times. Prior to this weekend’s suspension he had been an ever-present for Aberdeen this season.

Originally a left-back at Inverness, he moved forward to central midfield with Aberdeen, and it is there that Derby intend to deploy him.
