Southampton are considering adding Scott Arfield to their summer shopping list.
The 30-year is currently playing for Rangers, having signed for the Scottish Premiership side last May from Burnley. Yet after a single season back in his native Scotland, he could be heading back down south again to the lure of the Premier League.
Arfield has enjoyed a highly productive season under Steven Gerrard in Glasgow, making 42 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, and scoring 11 times, including a hat-trick, the first of his career, against Motherwell last season. He has also contributed 8 assists, more than any other player in the league.
Southampton are likely to have to pay £3 million for a player who was born in Scotland, but plays his international football for Canada through his father.
Arfield began his playing career with Falkirk before moving to Huddersfield Town. He spent three seasons in West Yorkshire, before his switch to Burnley for whom he made nearly 200 appearances across five seasons.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
